Magnús Ver Magnússon was born on April 23,1963 in Padir, Iceland. After indulging in a wide range of sports, Magnús began power lifting in 1984, and in 1985 won a medal in the junior European and World Champanionships. A few years later in 1989, and a year later in 1989, and again in 1990, he won Senior European titles in the 125 kg category. His totals often exceed those of everybody else in the competition regardless of body weight and, as a result, he has gained several "Best Lifter" awards.
Notable lifts include Squat 400 kg, Bench Press 274.5 kg, and Dead Lift 375 kg. Total weight: 1015 kg.
In powerlifting he has won the European Championship twice, in 1989 and 1991.
